Bob Adams is the founder of BusinessTown. He has a Harvard MBA and is a highly successful serial entrepreneur. Bob’s mission is to help aspiring entrepreneurs start, run and grow their own business.
Bob Adams knows what it takes to succeed in business. Bob has not only run lots of businesses, but also many different types and sizes of businesses. He has run online businesses and offline businesses, product businesses and service businesses. He has run businesses as small as one-person part-time businesses, while other businesses he has grown into multimillion-dollar enterprises serving global markets.
Bob’s biggest success to date was Adams Media Corporation, a book publisher he launched in his basement apartment with a single book and just $1,500. He eventually built the company into one of the largest independent book publishers in the US, releasing close to 200 titles annually, before selling it to F&W Publications for 40 million dollars.
But it doesn’t stop here! Bob Adams business ventures have included: an employment agency, a job listing website, a magazine group, used boat brokerage, a boat-building business, a house painting business, street maps, tourist maps, a software company, a multimedia company, a television production company, an advertising newspaper, an employment newspaper, phone directories, a job fair business and a bicycle rental service.
Most of Bob’s businesses he started with less than $2,000 and usually in areas in which he had no prior experience.
Adams has also served on the investment committee of Watermill Group, a private equity company.
Adams is active in a number of business organizations, including The Young Presidents’ Organization and The Harvard Business School Association of Boston. He has also been actively involved with The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).
In addition to his Harvard Business School MBA, Adams holds a BA in History and in Political Science from Carleton College, and is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy.
Bob’s hobbies include a 1900 era scale model railroad that envelops his living room. Bob also enjoys sailing, and has built several boats including a catamaran.
Bob Adams has often been featured in the media as a small business expert, including on television shows such as NBC’s Today, The 700 Club and Oprah! His Streetwise Business Tips segment appeared on First Business, previously the national business news program produced by The United States Chamber of Commerce.
